Information for Groups

We offer great discounted rates for groups of 15 or more people here at Llanberis Lake Railway and, as a part of ‘The Great Little Trains of Wales’ group which provide an evocative way to enjoy the magnificent scenery of Wales, and with each railway having its own character and personality, here at Llanberis Lake Railway we offer a 5-mile return journey which conveniently takes just under 60 minutes. During the journey the train passes the 13th century Dolbadarn Castle, crosses possibly Britain’s shortest river and passes between Llanberis’ twin lakes as it makes its way to Llanberis Village. From here the train runs non-stop through Padarn Country Park, joining the historic 1845 slate railway route to run along the shores of Lake Padarn on its outward journey to Penllyn and giving stunning views of Snowdon, ‘Yr Wyddfa’, the highest peak in England and Wales. On the return journey there is a short stop at the Picnic area, mid-way along the lake. Visit Wales chose this spot as one of the country’s top ten places for a picnic. Here, passengers can enjoy the scenery or take a closer look at the engine.

You are guaranteed* a steam engine as our policy is only to schedule one of our vintage steam engines on all advertised trains. Our engines were rescued from nearby Dinorwig Slate Quarries and have been lovingly restored and kept by our dedicated staff. (*diesels only used in emergency)

We are situated within the Padarn Country Park, Llanberis which has extensive free coach parking / toilets including disabled access. It is also home to the National Slate Museum of Wales, Quarry Hospital and crafts shops, which are now a part of the World Heritage Site. Our shop and café can cater for coach groups and the café’s menu offers a light snacks option, ideal when time is limited.

We are situated 45 minutes away from Llandudno (along the A55) and 15 minutes from Caernarfon. We are also only 45 minutes away from Betws y Coed, giving the opportunity to arrive at Padarn Country Park through the scenic Llanberis Pass which gives fantastic views of the mountains of Snowdonia.

The railway operates special trips during November and early December to cater for the Turkey and Tinsel market. These operate on Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays and include a complimentary mince pie and glass of non-alcoholic "seasonal drink" in the ticket.
